PATRICK APPIAH-OPONGMEMBER

With an extensive career in public-sector regulation and technical management, Patrick has served in senior leadership roles at the Ghana Maritime Authority, where he rose to Deputy Director (Technical). In this capacity, he provided strategic direction for safety standards, regulatory compliance, operational audits, and institutional controls—experience that translates directly into strong board oversight within the financial services sector.
Patrick’s professional journey spans executive management, engineering leadership, inspections, and regulatory enforcement, equipping him with a disciplined, systems-driven approach to governance. His expertise strengthens West One Microfinance’s focus on operational excellence, risk control, regulatory compliance, and sustainable growth.
He holds an MSc in Marine Surveys from Middlesex University (UK), a Diploma in Marine Surveys from Lloyd’s Maritime Academy, and a Class One Marine Chief Engineer certification from the Regional Maritime University. He has participated in numerous international professional development programmes covering compliance systems, safety management, audits, and institutional performance.
As a Director of West One Microfinance, Patrick contributes strategic insight, strong ethical judgment, and a commitment to prudent financial stewardship, in line with the institution’s mission of “Reaching Out to Help.”
